Social Media Video Transcription Guide

Learn how to turn public YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, X, and Twitter videos into searchable text, captions, and transcript exports.

Dkphhh

Video to Text converts public social media videos into searchable text. Paste a supported video link from YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, X, or Twitter, select a preferred language, and export the completed transcript as TXT, CSV, SRT, or VTT.

This workflow is designed for creators, researchers, editors, marketers, journalists, students, and anyone who needs a written record of spoken social video content.

Supported social media platforms

You can create a transcript from public HTTPS video links on:

The source video must be public and available on the original platform. Private, deleted, unavailable, or access-restricted videos cannot be processed.

How social media video transcription works

  1. Open the transcript tool for the social media platform that hosts the video.
  2. Paste the public video URL into the matching platform tab.
  3. Choose a preferred transcript language, or leave the language on Auto.
  4. Start transcription and wait for Video to Text to retrieve an available transcript or generate one when needed.
  5. Export the finished social media transcript in the format that fits your workflow.

The matching platform tab validates the URL before transcription begins. For example, the YouTube tab accepts youtube.com and youtu.be links, while the X tab accepts x.com and twitter.com links.

Choose a transcript language

Social media video transcription supports 130+ language codes and language variants. Select the language you prefer before submitting the URL.

Your language selection is a preference. If that transcript language is not available for the public video, Video to Text returns the default language available from the source video instead. Choosing the spoken language is usually the best option when you know it.

Read Supported Languages for Social Media Video Transcripts for the complete language-code reference.

Export formats

After processing, you can export a social media video transcript as:

  • TXT for reading, editing, notes, and written content
  • CSV for spreadsheets and structured review
  • SRT for subtitle workflows
  • VTT for web video captions

Use SRT or VTT when you need timed captions. Use TXT or CSV to review quotes, analyze a script, create a summary, or reuse spoken content in another format.

Common social media transcription use cases

Repurpose creator videos

Turn a YouTube video, TikTok, Instagram Reel, Facebook video, or X post into a transcript that can become a blog post, newsletter, script outline, video description, or social caption.

Create caption-ready files

Export SRT or VTT from a social media transcript to speed up subtitle production and make spoken video content easier to follow.

Research and collect quotes

Search a video transcript instead of replaying a clip repeatedly. This is useful for interviews, educational posts, product demonstrations, commentary, and public announcements.

Review ideas and scripts

Use the text version of a social video to study hooks, calls to action, explanations, questions, and recurring themes without transcribing each line manually.

Tips for better results

  • Use the full public HTTPS URL copied from the source platform.
  • Select the platform that matches the video URL before starting.
  • Choose the spoken language when you know it.
  • Confirm that the video is public and still available before submitting it.
  • Export your transcript after processing, especially when you need captions or a permanent written record.
